Marv Johnson
Born and raised in Northern California, attending school in the SF Bay Area. After graduating high school, I began my apprenticeship as a member of The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local #152. I worked for one of the premier builders in California, where I learned my trade, developing my carpentry skills. After four years, I “turned out” a seasoned Journeyman Carpenter. Over the course of my career with A.D. Seeno Construction, I went on to become a Carpenter Foreman and a Project Superintendent. After getting married, I made the decision to enroll in college, eventually earning a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from The University of San Francisco (USF). After graduation we made the decision to relocate to the Sierra Nevada Mountains and The Tahoe National Forest. Eventually settling on the West Slope of the Sierras in California’s “Gold Country”. Here in 1998, EMJAY Building & Design Ltd. was established. Then, at the beginning of 2012 our baby girl was born, completely changing my life. The decision was made to move to Washington State, to be closer to her Grandparents and extended family. After building our new home in Washington, searching for my next challenge, I started DeckEnvy LLC, with a focus on six-figure outdoor living projects for discriminating clients. Quite by accident, I stumbled upon a brand new deck and outdoor living publication. On a lark, I sent the editor at that time, David Koenig, a brief email and we struck up the first of many conversations. I penned my first article/review in the very next issue of Deck Specialist Magazine and have never looked back….
Currently, I build, write and live, with my wife and daughter in Gig Harbor, Washington.
For fun, I enjoy restoring and piloting wood powerboats, drinking citrus-flavored Lager or Pilsner Craft Beers and building Vacuum Tube Hi-Fi Audio gear. Cheers!
